Mr. Sisler is currently the Director of Bands and a Music Teacher at South Side Area School District (Hookstown, PA). At South Side, he is responsible for teaching all students who are members of the band program in Grades 5 through 12, which includes 5th Grade Beginning Band, 6th Grade Band, 7th and 8th Grade Band, High School Concert Band, Marching Band and Jazz Ensemble. Furthermore, he is responsible for teaching Kindergarten General Music and conducts the Pit Orchestra for school musical productions. Previously, Mr. Sisler held positions as the General Music Teacher at California Area School District and the Assistant Marching Band Director at Beaver Area School District.
Mr. Sisler holds a Master of Music in Music Performance Degree in Conducting from Youngstown State University where he studied conducting with Dr. Stephen L. Gage and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education Degree from Westminster College (New Wilmington, PA) where he studied saxophone with Dr. James Flowers and conducting with Dr. R. Tad Greig. As a saxophonist, he was the winner of the 2011 Concerto and Aria Competition as well as represented Westminster College at Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band at Juniata College in which he was the principal saxophonist. As a student conductor, he was a winner of the 2011 Westminster College Young Conductors Competition in which he conducted the Westminster College Wind Ensemble and also conducted a selection with the Westminster College Men’s Chorus in 2010. As a graduate conductor, Mr. Sisler conducted the Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble on In Memorium: David Maslanka in the Spring of 2018.
As a young professional, Mr. Sisler has conducted with the Beaver County Middle School Band in 2016, attended the West Chester Conducting Symposium in which he worked with Richard Floyd, Dr. Steven D. Davis, Dr. Andrew Yozviak, and Dr. M. Gregory Martin and is an active freelance musician playing musical pits for area high school musicals in Western Pennsylvania. Shawn currently resides in Conway, PA with his wife, Betsy.
